Way #5: What About Your Friends?

Quote of the Moment

I'm often asked why my standards for men are set so high. Well, it's because I have a Daddy, brothers, uncles, and even a grandfather who have set an excellent example for me. They not only taught me how I was supposed to be treated, they SHOWED me as well. They've modeled the way since I was a young girl. From opening doors, to pulling out chairs, taking care of the bill even when I insisted on paying myself, being emotionally available for me, and being my comfort in times of need. Always being courteous and complete gentlemen. I mean honestly, would you settle for anything less after receiving that kind of treatment? ....yeah, me neither. And I'm teaching my nieces to have the same standards. And teaching my nephew how to meet them.

Quote of the Moment

"Had a great convo about relationships earlier and realized that some people should remain single for however long God would have them rather than jumping from relationship to relationship until they are really truly ready to move on. We can reverse the unhealthy cycle of bad relationships by just being patient and learning from the past. Otherwise, we run the risk of making the same mistakes over and over again."

Quote of the Moment

"Singles: STOP asking, 'What's wrong with ME?' "Why am I still single?' There is NOTHING WRONG with you. Why my fellow married people ask you about marriage, politely ask them, 'Are you with your SOULmate or ROOMmate?' 'Is that a WEDDING ring or a SUFFERing?' STOP placing your WORTH on relationship status. WE ALL HAVE VALUE!"

Far too long...

Hello out there?

It's been far too long since a post has been made here, partially because life has just taken over. The blessing of employment was finally realized (Thank God) and I'm elated to finally be gaining some leeway in life. Feels like "the baby" of the family is finally growing up a bit. The course is being mapped for my future and everything looks so...bright. 2011 has come in and the one thing that I can say is that...surprise! I wasn't ready! 2010 was so amazing, so awesome that I don't think I was quite ready for it to leave yet. But on the other side of 2011, I'm filled with an exuberant joy! I can't say that I'm shying away from a new year, as I'm so accustomed to doing. I'm one of those people who fears the new and unknown because of its mystery. But now, I'm looking at this new year with new eyes. It's not scary...it's a blank page, full of space for excellence, new experiences, new goals, new accomplishments and yes, even new defeat. The point is...it's new. It's uncharted and it's mine.

With that being said, I've listed a few things that I'd love to see happen with this new year. Not new year resolutions (so it's not too late to actually post these as it is definitely nine days after the new year), as promises are so easily broken. But new opportunities...

Quote of the Moment

"In order to live victoriously as singles, we must get to the place where we live contentedly, without expecting our circumstances to change. It is in our living for today, as the day presents itself, that we become healthy, whole individuals, satisfied women who would be blessings in the lives of real men."

Way #1: Start a blog

"Where there's a will, there's a way..."

Or perhaps, where there is boredom and a desire to express oneself through writing, there's an outlet! And it's called "blogging". I've only just gotten interested in the phenomenon entitled blogging. I never thought of myself as a person to collect my thoughts and document them as I could never keep a personal journal, nor diary. Sigh, I can't even keep up with my own TWEETS. But a resounding urge kept pounding on the very door of my brain, waking me in the middle of very deep sleep and sometimes, distracting me in the middle of very impertinent thoughts. Start a blog, it said. "ABOUT WHAT?!" That was my reply...definitely in caps as I wanted to scream out in anguish at a repetitive message that made no sense at all. At my question, my brain literally laughed. About being single of course, silly (insert eye roll here). What better way to FILL your time during your season of singleness (AND unemployment) than to document every moment of it through blog, give it a spiffy title...and PRAY that someone who feels the same way and is living the same journey as I am will actually stumble upon this thing in cyberspace and READ it.
